The AnchorGuard system introduces a "Sacrificial Anode" into the electrolyte. This is a method of Cathodic Protection that has been used for decades in many applications such as protecting buried pipelines and the hulls of ships. The surface area of the anode has been engineered to provide the proper amount of electrical potential to take all the corrosion action upon itself, thus sacrificing itself for the protection of the anchor shaft and grounding system. A monitoring device is also installed to measure the effectiveness of the system. A quick reading with a voltmeter at inspection time is all that is needed to tell if the anodes are functioning properly. Anodes at a typical installation will last for 10 years or more.
